I've been seeing amazing photos of this red rock formation on the internet lately. I found out that this place is called Antelope Canyon located in Arizona. Antelope Canyon's dramatic vertical, winding walls were carved by fast-flowing flash flood waters over sandstone . . . over the period of thousands of years. The floods carry abrasive sand, rocks, logs and other debris which carve out it's unique shape.
Antelope Canyon is located in a Navajo Park and it's name in Navajo literally means “the place where the water takes a picture of itself.” I think this name is beautiful and honors the earth. I just love that. There are still flash floods to this day and that is the risk when visiting Antelope Canyon. What an adventure!
This gorgeous place is definitely on my bucket list.
